Donald Trump claimed that the Houthis in Yemen “capitulated.”[1] But a report from Drop Site News makes it look like the intensive bombing campaign that the U.S. had launched against the Houthis had simply gotten too expensive and that the U.S. was unable to penetrate Houthi defenses to gain updated intelligence for targeting.[2]
I have to say, I was expecting an inconclusive result. But this looks like the Houthis, who promise to continue their campaign against Israel in support of Gazans,[3] won. That’s gotta be a very weird place for the toxically masculine Trump to be, especially when he has threatened military force against Iran[4] and Greenland.[5]
Greenland is Danish territory; Denmark might well invoke both the European Union and North Atlantic Treaty Organization treaties in its defense.[6] In view of Trump’s failure against the Houthis, his threat even against Greenland becomes ludicrous, let alone his threat against Iran.
But if there is a characterization of Trump we can draw from the first 100 days of his second term, it is that he is both incredibly ludicrous and incredibly dangerous. I simply can’t rule out that our raging narcissist-in-chief will lash out in reaction to his defeat in Yemen, quite possibly violently. He has failed not only his own ego but Binyamin Netanyahu, whose Zionist state will presumably continue to face Houthi attacks.
The only thing that might prevent it is Trump’s delusion that the Houthis ‘capitulated.’
