My pledge of disallegiance
How can I think China is somehow worse than the U.S.?
I do not know why I should be any ‘softer’ on the U.S. than China.
Yes, China’s treatment of the Uighur population is horrific and genocidal. And yes, China is an empire in its own right, notably in Tibet and the South China Sea. And yes, Chinese nationals have much to fear from their government even when they are overseas.
But the U.S. has reduced Israel to a U.S. agent in paying for and arming a horrific and genocidal treatment of Palestinians, particularly in Gaza. And the U.S., jointly with Israel, has launched an increasingly regional, utterly stupid and failing war on Iran with near-total disregard for civilian life in Iran, even after disastrous and failed wars in Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq, which were also conducted with near-total disregard for civilian lives.
The U.S. kills millions of people because it doesn’t like their governments whether or not those people have a meaningful voice in those governments. And it supports governments it does like even when they are even murderously oppressive of their own people and even when they oppress people in territories they have no legitimate claim to. And it has done so for decades if not centuries.
But I am supposed to fear China. I do. I fear my own government more.
